Abstract

Surgery to correct a hernia using mesh has the advantage to reduce post-surgical pain and recurrence. However, surgical complication of chronic infections in the groin might infrequently occur while using mesh. The treatment for mesh groin infection is prolonged and difficult, and requires the appropriate removal of the infected mesh. After the removal of the infected mesh, hernia recurrence is reportedly about 5%. In patients with high preoperative ASA score, hernia repair using a choice of mesh repair is determined as prudent; however, universal recommendations for use of biological mesh are currently lacking.
